Eriksen Translations Sponsors Acclaimed Theater Company's Newest Production
Brooklyn, NY (PRWEB) February 2, 2008 -- Eriksen Translations is a proud sponsor of Wakka Wakka Productions's Fabrik: The Legend of M. Rabinowitz. Hailed as a "powerfully affecting production that capitalizes on the range of the art form and takes it to impressive heights" by The New York Times, the show will be running through Sunday, February 17 at Urban Stages Theatre, 259 West 30th Street in New York City.
Eriksen provided translations from Norwegian into English of the copious source material, including articles and a book written by Rabinowitz, as well as correspondence that he conducted with readers of his newspaper columns. The theater artists used the translations to create the play, which is a co-production of The Nordland Visual Theater and Wakka Wakka Productions.
"It is a personal passion of mine and a commitment that our company has made to support our community, promote cultural events, and encourage creative expression," said Vigdis Eriksen, president & CEO of Eriksen Translations. "And Moritz Rabinowitz was a truly inspiring entrepreneur. Not only was he fearlessly principled and politically active, he also knew how to run a great business!"
Based on true facts, Fabrik tells the story of an industrious and outspoken Jewish clothing manufacturer in Haugesund, Norway. His political treatises railing against European anti-semitism and later the Nazis' extermination of the Jews led to his being targeted and eventually captured when the Germans invaded.
Though the story is tragic, the internationally-acclaimed Wakka Wakka has created a magical and entertaining show featuring original puppets by company member Kiran Waage and a score by Lars Petter Hagen. Backstage magazine calls the piece "a must-see feat of theatricality" and ended its review saying, "Terrific use of stick puppets adds an additional layer of fun to this dark piece, and the same can be said of the show's clever songs, which both chill and amuse."
Additional sponsorship was provided by The Six Points Fellowship for Emerging Jewish Artists, The Jim Henson Foundation, The Norwegian Arts Council, The Royal Norwegian Consulate General, and Puppeteers of America. Tickets are available at http://www.wakkawakka.org.
