Studies Show PRO-LAK Dairy Bypass Protein Supplement Increases Milk Production
(PRWEB) August 22, 2007 -- PRO-LAK® dairy bypass protein supplement from H.J. Baker & Bro. remains one of the most effective feed ingredients in the industry for improving milk production in dairy cows.
PRO-LAK® research began in 1986 with a grant from H.J. Baker to Cornell University. This early work established the U.I.P. and D.I.P fractions of the proteins considered for use in PRO-LAK®. This study was used as the data base in an amino acid model to generate an optimum formula.
During 1990 and 1991, the effectiveness of PRO-LAK® was verified in commercial field studies. At Mississippi State University milk production increased 3 to 6 pounds without effecting milk fat or protein.
Further confirmation was established in 1993 in extensive field trials involving 5 universities, 35 herds and 7,289 cows. Participating were the Universities of Pennsylvania, Florida, Wisconsin, Arizona, and Virginia Tech. The regional diversification represented a broad spectrum of the U.S. Dairy Industry and provided the opportunity to observe the PRO-LAK® response under various herd feeding and management situations.
A positive PRO-LAK® response, averaging 5.82 pounds of milk was generated in early lactation cows. The overall response across 7,289 cows was 2.68 pounds more milk. University trials demonstrated that early lactation responses to PRO-LAK® are significantly greater than average herd responses. This supports the need to introduce PRO-LAK® immediately before calving or shortly thereafter.
H.J. Baker brings the experience and resources of 150 years as a successful business and over 30 years of manufacturing marine and animal protein supplements.
Specifically formulated for today's high producing dairy cows, PRO-LAK® is a multi-source marine and animal by-pass protein supplement designed to compliment the protein from rumen microbial activity. This desired nutrient balance is accomplished by 72% of the protein by-passing rumen degradation and delivering the essential amino acid profile for maximum milk production.
By including PRO-LAK® in rations, experience the ease and convenience of handling one ingredient while obtaining the recognized nutritional benefit of feeding multiple by-pass proteins. PRO-LAK® is readily available throughout the year from plants in Westville, Oklahoma; and Sanford, North Carolina. All PRO-LAK® manufactured and delivered from the Westville, Oklahoma and Sanford, North Carolina facilities are certified by H.J. Baker as free of any bovine material. Both facilities are dedicated, ruminant free facilities.
Delivery schedules can be programmed to fit inventory and production requirements. Due to the PRO-LAK® standardized formulation, the dairy industry can be assured of product uniformity each and every shipment.
